I think this will surprise us all. Sometimes untouched , unmolested true barn finds bring silly money. See: Martin, Aston.

I'll give it one thing, It's complete..

If you could grab it for 10, restore it for 30, wouldn't be a bad car.

Woof. Michigan? That's gonna have a lot more rust than the buyer will realize.

There seems to be some kind of insanity here??? At the same time as that Cortina auction closed there was also a very nice 66 Lotus Elan closing, the Elan was only bid to $30.000. Years ago the Elan would have a lot more value than a Cortina.

Agreed.

While I am aware of the Locort market, both on this side of the pond on the side where they were born AND while I know the distinction between the Mk1 and the Mk2 AND while I would pay large money for a decent example...

...this was NOT a decent example.

Still, if/when enough money is invested it will be a good example.

Won't get their money back though - but for some, the money is secondary.

I expect to see this restored in a couple of years or on sale in a couple of years, untouched, in worse repair with an asking price in the $40K range.

Agreed. It is insane. And it will come to a boiling point.

If I was doing vintage racing I'd grab a locort, but for the lotus name? The Elan is the way to go 10/10 times.

Insanity is correct

Sounds like our housing market.
