Hi guys, I've just stumbled across this great looking Forum!

I grew up in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) where we were surrounded by English Fords, and my dad bought the very first Zephyr Six to arrive in our area in 1953.

We stuck with Fords throughout the 50's and early 60's. It was only the fact that we moved to South Africa where they weren't as popular, that we stopped, but we did have a Cortina in '65.

I will dig around for some photos and see what I can come up with.

The one car that I don't have a photo of is our 1955 Zephyr station wagon, which was dearly loved by the family, but here is a list of what we had in that period:

1953 Zephyr Six (metallic green)
1955 Zephyr Station Wagon (white)
1959 Zephyr Six (white)
1959 Consul (grey)
1960 Zephyr Six (Sunburst yellow)
1962 Anglia 105 E (two tone silver)
1964 Cortina GT ( powder blue)
1965 Cortina 2 door ( grey)
1965 Consul ( two tone blue)
1965 Corsair (white)

Add to that our 1960 Fairlane 500 and I think we did quite well! Very Happy

Welcome to the forum from a UK member. That is a lot of Fords, the Mk1 Zephyr estate is very rare. In recent years here I have only seen one Consul and a Zephyr in estate form and I believe that both of them were rebuilt from rotten esates onto better saloon bases.

Thanks for the replies!

I have just remembered two more! I was in England in 73 and came back to SA and bought a new Cortina 1600 (Coke bottle shape) for myself, and then there was also my brother's blue Anglia that he bought new in Cape Town towards the end of 1964, and immediately drove up to us in Northern Rhodesia (2500 miles) for a quick visit.

The station wagon was a rarity even back then, and I only recall one other in NR at the time - a green one owned by my father's cousin.

My brother has only just recently sold his black 1959 Zodiac when he took over my very low mileage Wolseley 6/110. I will post a picture of that as well on the other forum under African Fords.

I just looked again at the list of Fords and noticed the 1960 Zephyr in Sunburst Yellow. Well last night a good friend rang me and told me he had just bought a 1960 Zephyr in that colour from his nephew. It's a really nice car, I drove it home for the nephew when he bought it in October. My Anglia 105E is also Sunburst Yellow but with a white roof.

I LOVE sunburst yellow. It was a really pretty colour and definitely suited the Zephyr. Very Happy
