Mk III Cortina Images: Courtesy of: the International Ford History Project.
The cover of Ford of Canada's 1970 Annual Report shows three small Fords, two from Europe. Interestingly, all three cars, Cortina, Pinto & Capri shared the same English-built 1600 Kent engine. Later all three models would share the German-built 2000 OHC.
This unique ad comes from a eight page Ford of Canada insert to the Canadian edition of Readers Digest from 1971 (probably May). The Mk III was still a few months away from being introduced in Canada, and this ad shows that Ford was originally planning a wider range of models than what we ended up with. This ad features a basic Cortina and a up-market Cortina XL. By the time the Mk III was introduced in Canada, only the L and the GT were offered.
1972 Mk III Cortina GT in Canadian spec form, again looking noticeably
different than its home market sibling.
The final year for the Cortina in Canada was 1973. This page from the 1973 Canadian-spec Cortina sales catalog shows the Cortina GT. The noticeable differences between the 1972 Cortina GT and the 1973 are the bigger front bumpers and a different type of styled steel wheels. |

1973?? are you sure? I have the brochure and there is no date of issue. I am interested about detail photo of the bumper if is possible.
1973 as a final year in Canada? Wow - so MkIII only 1970-73?? In Canada were any facelift versions (new facia, different grill...)

Actully the run was was shorter than that, really only two model years (1972 & 73), as they didn't arrive in Canada until August 1971.
This GT is a '73, you can tell by the bumpers and the type of styled wheels. The RoStyles were only offered for the 1972 model Canadian GT.
