Is there anybody in the Vancouver, B.C. area that would be willing to lend me a drive shaft (1200cc) for an hour or less?
I'm still chasing my d/line vibration. My shaft has been pronounced "good" by Pat's Drive Line, but if I could try another then I can rule out the possibility of it being "not good"
A long shot I know, but the only thing left is pinion angle and/or tail shaft bushing.
Cheers,
Dave.

Many thanks to langlia for the generous loan of his d/shaft.
I installed it on my car...smooth as can be, no vibration.
Re-installed my supposedly good one, very bad vibrations.
So, back tomorrow to Pat's Drive Line to see if they can rectify the issue.
Many thanks, again.
Cheers,
Dave. |

Now you have me nervous, I had them modify a Cortina shaft for my (not yet on the road)100e. They replaced the u-joints, shortened and balanced it, I hope I don't end up with your nightmare? _________________ Anglia 100e modified

Just a few minutes ago, just to make sure I wasn't seeing/feeling things, I ran up the car again with my shaft...vibrations
I ran up the car with langlia's shaft and even with a bad front u-joint...smooth
I'll see what Pat's has to say tomorrow.
At worst I may be looking for a d/shaft from somewhere.
Cheers,
Dave. |

Please let us know how it works out, it would be hard to believe that a business like that would wash their hands of the situation in light of the evidence. _________________ Anglia 100e modified

Don't worry, they are cheap and easy to replace. _________________ Anglia 100e modified

Yes, the front one has a very bad flat spot in it. But I didn't feel it when I had it on my car.
Fortunately, they are easy to replace.

I took the shaft back to Pat's today and told them the story.
The fellow there said they balance the shaft without the rear flange attached.
They are going to try to balance it with the flange attached.
I'll update when I get it back.
Cheers,
Dave.
PS.
Langlia, I took your shaft back to your place this morning. Thank you. |

You don't have to have a vice or a press to change U-joint,
You just need a large C-clamp and ratchet wrench sockets.
Cheers

Well......I got the shaft back from Pat's, they re-balanced it and moved some weights around. The high speed vibration is gone.
It now vibrates badly at 20-35mph.
I'm taking it back on Monday and they're going to re-tube it again.
It's a simple d/shaft, how hard can this be?
If this doesn't work, has anyone got a d/shaft they would be willing to sell??
Cheers,
Dave. |

Just a thought, you probably already know this...make sure the u joints are in line with each other and the ends are put in the tube squarely. Many years ago I witnessed a shortened drive shaft welded back up with the u joints out of alignment and it was a reputable company that did the work. A new guy was in a hurry and did not line up the parts. |
