I'm happily bringing this car back into use. I have a few questions:
1. Despite having rebuilt the original engine, it seems very under powered. I have to drop into 2nd on modest inclines and my top speed is about 45 mph. Is this normal?
2. My tires are 5.00/5.25-16 but the official spec is 5.00-16. Mine do seem too wide and I can barely get the spare into its compartment. Might the larger width tire effect the driving characteristics? Can someone suggest a source for 5.00-16 tires?
Happy to trade stories,
Jim |

Welcome Jim and congratulations on your Prefect. I have a '48 E93A. You're right about the power, not a lot there but top speed should be around 55 or even close to 60 instead of 45. Owner's manual quotes 0-50 time about 27 seconds. It is a long stroke engine and makes pretty good torque so resorting to 2nd gear should really not be necessary for a gentle incline.
There is an outfit in New Zealand that sells original type tyres (their spelling) but they are pretty expensive. I think Coker Tires may have something that will work. Anyway, the 5.25 should not be a problem although they might be a tight fit in the boot.
Finally, we need pictures. Here's a link to my Prefect. http://enfoprefect.org _________________ Bayless
