They were hard miles given the condition of the strut tops.

Those strut tops are common (too common) to all Cortinas of this age, regardless of the use and abuse they go through, just a bad design/build feature.

Lots of rust in all the usual places...

I agree. I owned them back in the day and most had been plated. At 19000, this one appears to have been ridden hard and put away wet. Still a nice basis for someone, though.
