1966 Ford Cortina GT - Black Plate Survivor - $22500

This survivor car recently underwent a full recommissioning, with engine and trans reseal, new clutch, all brake hydraulics and linings replaced. NOS Ford factory exhaust. Every component was cleaned, lubed and tested starting in 2013 and finishing in January of this year.

Original parts: all glass, 70% of the paint, all sheet metal of course, chrome, interior, all locks, Lucas headlights, all lenses, the spare with its amusing Goodyear 5.60 X 13 Whitewall bias ply. The gas tank is original and the dash houses the "Cortina" script radio. There is not one reproduction part on this car.

The upgrades include replacing the stock wide ratio trans with a 1965 Lotus Cortina Semi-Close ratio trans in excellent condition. Another of the subtle changes are the Mk II 4 1/2 " wide rims running modern Michelin radials, with the stock 4" rims available on request. A modern K&N filter unit gives better access to the engine bay, the stock airbox is included. Also included: Owner's manual, Shop manual, Key fob.

The engine was carefully checked. The crank is standard and still within specs. The bores are standard and still serviceable. The cam and followers are untouched. The 1500 was known in the day for its flexibility and high revving nature. That has been preserved in this unit exactly as designed by Cosworth, one of their first commissions.

Bought in 1981 with paperwork going back to '77, the black plates are consistent with being sold in late '66, so it is a SoCal car its whole life. In my care it was dry stored until 1991 when it was titled and returned to running condition. Since 1991 it has been driven less than 2000 miles. It currently shows 88,000 with 300 being driven in the last few weeks to test the car.

The biggest issue on a car of this age is the possibility of rust. Being a Socal, dry stored car it has the minimum possible, with just a few bubbles in the front fenders. The Ermine White paint has had repairs through the years, the left quarter panel and the front of the right fender being the most notable. The rest has the dings and scratches that come with time and all have been touched up. The black interior is all there, but needs all seating surfaces renewed, and carpets.

This is one of the Jewels of my car collection. Effectively it is time machine. It looks like a well cared for example from the 70's, available today. On the eve of Jimmy Clark's passing in 1968, I think he would like to take it for a spin.

I believe it is one of Phil's cars. That's about the going price of an average
condition MK1 GT 2D ~$20K.

Here's one you will probably be able to answer Pete, I thought that the GT's had just the one Ford badge on the bottom of the drivers side front fender ? This one is on the passenger side, pretty unimportant but just curious.

Hi Lee,

I'm thinking it depends which side the "badge attachman" was standing during the assembly line. My '66 GT and '66 124E have two types of Ford badges on the R/H side. My dad's old Zephyr has a 50's triangular badge on the L/H.
I've come across EnFos with no badges from the factory or only a badge above the trunk handle on a "67 124E.

Looks like Aeroflows should have an oval Ford badge on the passenger side front fender. I guess mines wrong, but seeing as the steering wheels on the wrong side I’ll let it go😉

Whilst we are on the subject of decals, anyone know what this represents? It's on the front drivers side fender. Thanks

At first I thought it maybe a British logo because of the London type clock.
Instead, a Portuguese soccer fan.

Ford badge always goes on the passenger side fender, so pedestrians can see the make of car when its parked on the side of the street.
