Re: 100E brakes on Upright spindle

I have 100E brakes on my '48 Prefect but I will be a couple of days before I can actually measure anything. I had the back axle out recently though and do remember a spacer between the backing plate the the axle housing probably about 1/4 inch thick. I did the conversion over 50 years ago so don't r...

Sure like that 100e Prefect. My sister had one many years ago about the same time my E93A was a regular driver second car.

Re: Old poster returning with a 105e Estate

According to my paint supplier, older paint codes typically do not work with modern paints. He also will not try to match a photo because photos don't really match the paint. They are affected too much by whatever light was available when it was shot.

Re: Tie rod rebuild kit

I got a whole front bumper shipped from Ireland last year for $59.00 by DHL and it arrived in less than a week. I don't think I could have shipped it from California for that amount.

What is "special" about that bolt Fred? It has been a while for sure but I seem to recall it was just a hardware store bolt.

Prefect progress finally

After being hung up on a home remodel for over a year, I have finally made some progress on the Prefect. Here is the new apron below the boot lid with lots of straightening in the whole area.

Still lots of grinding and some filler to do.

I agree. Something else is at fault. My '48 Prefect also has the 100E sidevalve, 2 blade fan and not even any shroud around it. After sitting for several years, I wanted to flush the system. Added a new 160 deg stat and let it idle for an hour with the bonnet open. I checked every few minutes and th...

"New" bumper for my '48 Prefect

I have been checking the usual stateside sources for years for a replacement front bumper with no luck. Finally, a new friend in Dublin Ireland found one and shipped it to me via DHL. It came from Dublin to Oklahoma City in 2 days for the grand sum of $58. Yes it has a little rust and the chrome is ...

The "screwdriver test" is really quite difficult to do with acceptable accuracy. Therefore it should only be used to ensure things are "in the ballpark." The problem is that at TDC, a few degrees of crank movement makes so little difference in the position of the piston. Also, I ...

It sounds more like a distributor problem. Possibly the advance weights are not working. Or maybe it is supposed to have a vacuum advance and that is either not connected or not working properly. Cam timing being off a tooth makes it run really bad. I have made that mistake.
