The info in my message is that you might be able to fit a Cortina 3 bell housing onto this T9 gearbox although i don't know if Merkur has the long primary shaft or the big bearing on ...

A T9 5 speed box from a Sierra 1600 / 2000 OHC/Pinto will fit straight onto a Kent .
This T9 is in fact a 4 speed box with an overdrive .
The bell housing of a Cortina 3 / 4 / 5 1600 / 2000 OHC will fit also straight on the 5 speed as the original box is the same .
But mind , don't mix it up with ...

175 tire on 4.5 wheels , in my opinion one needs a 5 inch wide wheel for that tire size .

Cortina MK1 struts are standard fitted to vertical , they should come a bit forward below . Makes it steer much better .

You don't need to take the dash out .

Besides the gearbox .. flywheel , clutch set , gearlever , pedal , maybe propshaft , gearbox bracket , take out starter blocking wiring .
Carb might have other setting but that won't matter . Some other small bits might be different but not always need to be swapped .

The front end is indeed the same but if one hapens to have an estate or van there is a total different story .
The Escort MK2 estate and van use an Escort MK1 body with Escort MK2 frontpannel and bonnet with frontwings specialy made to fit to MK1 doors and Mk2 frontpanel .
