Re: Lotus Cortina MK1 '67

I wonder if this is the same car that I used to see on Craigslist when I stayed in Palm Springs? I loved going through Craigslist on my vacations there, I would imagine buying something nice down there and driving it back to Canada. If genuine - and it looks it to me - you will have to bring a big ...

Re: Crossflow Cortina on BaT

It got bid to $24250 not sold. If the s2000 engined one from the week before sold at $30000ish, which I think was more car, the c/f should have been let go. What do you guys think? Gary in AZ If you look at the comments (too many of which are mine :D ) you will see that the owner either had little ...

Re: CL-1965 Cortina Race Project - $6,000 (BC)

Took a quick measure and it's looking about 5mm from the front struts, pretty snug but never had an issue. On the rear I'm pretty similar with my deep dish 'Lotus" wheels, interestingly enough slightly different gaps on each side but I'm told this is pretty standard. Minilites give me more of a gap...

Re: CL-1965 Cortina Race Project - $6,000 (BC)

How is the clearance at the front between the tire and strut, the Mk1 strut is a bit tight there. My GT had 13" 205s when I bought it, no clearance issues, can't remember the profile but it was probably 70. If it helps, I then went with 14" wheels with 185/70s on mine...no clearance issues anywhere...

Re: CL-1965 Cortina Race Project - $6,000 (BC)

I am glad the codes worked, I see you got the steering wheel in the right place. Do you remember what the asking price was on the red one back then? I vaguely remember around the $5K mark with all the bits and pieces thrown in and (again VAGUELY) remember when I met with the owner prior to this gen...

Yes, the last time I looked at that auction he had some answering to do.
Usually the seller is ready willing and able to answer all questions even if they don't satisfy.

On BaT things tend to go badly when the seller fails to respond...no matter. still a long time to go.

Re: CL-1965 Cortina Race Project - $6,000 (BC)

You mentioned a concern about the top mounts? It looks like it still has stock Mk1 struts and control arms but they are moved inward and back so who knows what the castor/camber figures are now but I bet the change is an asset to the Cortina's drivability. I know the built in spindle angle is  abou...

I like that BAT Cortina, it looks quite solid and it's only a couple of days drive from here. I wonder where the bidding will take it?
I threw in the $10K bid to keep the dreamers and time-wasters at bay.

Re: CL-1965 Cortina Race Project - $6,000 (BC)

Did you ever have a look at the GT project out in Abbotsford about 1 1/2 years ago ? Stripped right down with a bunch of new sheet metal welded in. Not too bad , but still lots of work to go. It was on craigslist for a number of months. I was interested but then a chance to buy a Lola came along an...

Re: CL-1965 Cortina Race Project - $6,000 (BC)

Why would someone in North America have converted it to RHD? Just curious. Two reasons, one being the rack and pinion as noted above and the other being the installation of the Hayabusa (if I remember correctly, that is what I was told). I AM on the hunt for another MK1 GT but this one needs more w...

Its baaaaack!

And will be back again unless he drops the price, I know the car, have seen the car, discussed the car in some depth with the previous owner, agreed on what was required to get it on the track - and even at just over half the asking here, I declined.

Re: Rotary Anglia for sale.

Yes it's tempting and my Wife has given me permission to take the two Ferries to go see it. In reality though, I don't know what I would do with another Anglia and where do you put it? Terrible decision! Buy my Lotus instead so I can buy that Anglia :D My Wife would not go for a Lotus for sure, I t...

Re: 1968 Lotus Cortina on BAT

Never a fan of the Mk11 regardless of the model (yes, I know they are good cars!) and they just never had the same appeal as the Mk1's - this one looks fine but that is the most pitiful video I have seen in a long time. I posted on BaT, saying so but BaT has a habit of eating posts so my labours wer...
