They went over to the new system in October 1961, Brett. The last 100E Populars used it, and the VIN number bore no relationship to the engine number.

If it has been fitted with an OHV engine, then with one of these cars it would almost certainly mean a replacement gearbox and rear axle, and rear suspension also. The original suspension set-up was very similar to the Model T, and Ford retained this system for decades. In Britain it was 1950 before...

You're welcome! I suspect your informant is confusing things with an automatic transmission.

Only way if it's really stuck - and they often are - is to remove the head and drift it out from below, using a socket just a bit smaller than the outside diameter of the drive dog.

Brutal, but there's no other real way without risking damage to the distributor body.

No, that is absolute rubbish. You cannot disconnect the drive (propeller) shaft as it is enclosed in a torque tube. This latter attaches to the rear of the gearbox and locates the axle in the longitudinal direction; without it there is no means of locating the axle and preventing movement forwards o...

That isn't possible with an Upright.

No, there would be no problem towing.

The weather was brilliant, Brett: warm, bright sunshine but a gentle breeze to keep the temperature at a comfortable level. The standard of the cars was generally high, with the modifications well done and effective. There were no serious mechanical issues through the day; in fact, such excitements ...

Lakes Tour 17th June 2017

It's that time of year again! This is organised in conjunction with www.105speed.com, and was an excellent itinerary, not in the Lakes but the Yorkshire Dales. Using mostly single track roads with hairpin pends, sometimes at the bottom of steep hills, we visited Dent village and the Wensleydale chee...

I prefer cars to be driven, not ogled. I understand why people do what they do with some cars but I will continue to put the miles on my cars, regardless of what it does to the cars and to the value. This car, I 'get it' but in the 5 or so years I have seen this car offered for sale I haven't seen ...

The cast parts of the engine were a dark bottle green, I think Small Ford Spares or Pop Parts Plus do the colour. The sheet steel parts were gloss black, and the alloy bits left natural. On the other hand, I have seen examples were EVERYTHING was dark green, as though the complete engine had been sp...
