Welcome Jim and congratulations on your Prefect. I have a '48 E93A. You're right about the power, not a lot there but top speed should be around 55 or even close to 60 instead of 45. Owner's manual quotes 0-50 time about 27 seconds. It is a long stroke engine and makes pretty good torque so resortin...

I wouldn't have them do babbits. Back in the 60s when I had mine rebuilt the shop converted it to insert. Those kits are still available and it is a pretty simple operation.

Here is a 100E engine on eBay, supposed to be rebuilt already. http://www.ebay.com/itm/English-Ford-100E-engine/291131332966?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.RVI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D21022%26meid%3D6617152653769477073%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D9336%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D4%2...

What Jan said. It had been long enough (1965 or so) that I had forgotten some of that. But those are the mods needed. Note too that the 100E starter is 12 volt so you will need a bunch of new bulbs but the hotter electrics will be well worth the effort and cost. Simple enough though. On the '48 Pref...

Having a mechanic would certainly help and it would make an interesting installation but my other concerns still apply. The 100E actually looks like it belongs in the car. In fact, unless one is really familiar with it, they would not even suspect a swap. Finding a decent 100E should not be too hard...

I have a '48 Prefect that used up its engine years ago. I played with the idea of swapping a V8 60 for some time but finally decided to go with a 100E instead. I'm glad I did. First, it is getting very hard to even find a 60 anymore although I did have one at the time. Second, parts to overhaul a 60...

Put in neutral and jack up one rear wheel. Turn the wheel 2 full turns and count the number of turns the driveshaft makes. That is your ratio.

Unless you have a radio, the only other thing I can think of that cares is the coil. You don't have to replace it but you do need to reverse its low tension wires. They could be marked + and - but more likely CB and SW.

I discussed this problem with the FSOC several years ago. I was trying to buy several items that we would never consider as safety threats. One was new rubber for my opening windshield. My comment was that there is just no way they could be sued over that. The response was, conceivably the rubber co...

Sorry to see that. Looks like the paint has to go though. My best guess too is a non-breathing car cover that trapped the vapor inside and eventually just forced it through that old porous finish. Not sure what sort of paint they had but if lacquer, that will surely happen.

I don't have any personal experience but I have heard or read several times that adding a rear bar can really mess things up.
