Those valves look like they are sitting a little too proud of the head surface. I have an uprated FF head that I can take pictures of this weekend if you want to see what they look like.

I think you're better off finding an uprated head (they come up for sale quite often on the apexspeed forum or ask for one). Despite Dave's experience, you're taking off 0.100" of the head, making it even more susceptible to warping when it is hot. Not sure if this one is still available. https...

Scroll down to the high balance manifold. This is a custom made one, but gives you the idea.

That spacer acts as a balance tube between the carbs. It has to do with unequal
firing that helps balance out the pulses. It won't run correctly without it. There is a European version that looks better and has a balance tube at the top so the fuel doesn't pool.

Yes, that's the manifold from the 240/260/280 that I used. I remember that the intake mounting surface (on the manifold) to the head needed to be machined so that the carbs were level. Here is the story on the down draft conversion. http://www.lotuseuropa.org/Twink-carb-conversion.htm Here is single...

The Stromberg heads came in two different configurations. The "big valve" that was in all Federal Europas, the "big valve" that came in the 1971-1972 and later Elans and Elan +2s and the normal size valve ones that came in everything else (typically pre-1971?). You can google aro...

I bought a performance camshaft from the local Ford dealer for my Cortina GT MkII about 35 years ago. As I recall the number was D12X6250. I still have the tube that the camshaft came in, so I can double check that # for you this weekend.

Congratulations. You got a good deal on all those cars. That GT looks to be in pretty good condition. Parts are not too hard to come by. Engine and transmission parts are easy. Lots of vendors in the states and plenty more across the pond. Body parts are available over seas, but expensive to ship. A...

Doug, Depending on what year Capri the rear end is from (and if it's from a 2.0l), it's a 3.44. The V6 Capris had 3.22. Early 1600 Capris had a 3.89. If the rear end is indeed that high, then it could be from something else. Did you look to see if there is a tag with the ratio on the rear end bolts?...

It's easy. Just take your time and make sure you mark where parts come off. Most rebuild kits come with a diagram, so that should help. It might also help to take digital pictures to refer back to.

The stock radial tire size for the Cortina was a 165(~80)R13. You can us those or a 185/70R-13. Those two sizes were stock on the Capri depending on engine size (and basically the same diameter). The 5 inch wheels are a little narrow for the 185s in my opinion, but Ford must have thought differently...

Steve, Some of the Fiesta blocks did not come with the motor mount holes drilled and tapped. If you find one that does, it will fit. The next thing that is different is the crank length. It is shorter at the rear of the motor. You could make your own spacer or there is a Formula Ford guy that makes ...
