New member from the UK, bringing over my mk2 Escort

Post by davidphillips »

Hey all,

Found your forum after a fair amount of searching - glad to see there is a community on this side of the Atlantic passionate about English Fords!

I moved over to Utah earlier this year, and I'm in the middle of shipping my 1980 mk2 Escort over. It should be here this side of Christmas with any luck.

Is there any other members from Utah, or even better, any Escort owners? Anyway, here's a photo of the old girl. Lots has changed since this photo, including a full engine build by Mike Lowman racing, complete brake and suspension overhaul including adjustable coilovers with Gaz inserts, 3J Driveline LSD and a roll cage!

Thanks!

Dave

Welcome Dave to the forum and the States. Nice car you have there. There are some Escorts floating around but they were never sold here so they are rare.

Welcome, Dave. Euro Escorts weren't officially imported to N.America. So these are quite rare here esp. a RHD car. Nice.

Welcome to the Forum Dave, I am actually up in Western Canada but I have yet to see an Escort of your vintage here. There was a few Mk1 versions running around here but they disappeared years ago.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I know this is going to be a rare sight! My guess is that the only other Escorts will be mainly used for Rally purposes, and I'm sure there will not be many of them.

Thanks,

Dave.

Welcome Dave. Nice Escort. I recently saw a photo on Facebook of a yellow Mk II in New York.

Hi Dave

I have a mk2 escort 1976, I live in Canada and have never seen
another on the roads, a great car in the snow, lots of fun but washing
it before you put it back away is a must, but hey they are meant to be driven

Hi Bigdazza, good to know there is another one over this side of the pond. Do you have a photo of yours? Is it still standard?

Cheers,

Dave.

Not yet I'm afraid, the paperwork is a real pain! I'm not too worried though, I'm not in a huge hurry. I'll let you know once it's here with some photos :)

Well, after quite some time, the old girl is not only here on the ground in SLC, UT - but she is now fully registered and roadworthy.

Following 3 years of sitting, I flushed the old oil out, turned the engine over by hand a few times and she fired right up. The xflow is a beuatiful sound, especially with a set of Weber DCOE carbs bolted on!

Hopefully see some of you around on the roads. Would love to chat with more mk2 Escort owners.

Cheers,

Dave
