Hi,

I stumbled across this website from www.oldskoolfords.co.uk

Thought I say hi as I am always interested in knowing about european Fords in USA, I regularly go to San Jose, CA as my wife's family emigated to USA in mid 90s from UK as her dad work there, lucky him! LOL

Anyway, I got my LHD mk1 4-door Ford Escort that I imported from Italy, via eBay that I bought without missus' knowing, but she forgave me!! hehe

Here the photos

It is original 940cc basic model which was marketed for Italy only that make it rare

Will put up more pictures on Reader's ride as I am restoring it as street sleeper

I think the front side marker lights are an Italian specification too. To my eyes it looks nice as is.

Sean,

What year was your Escort made.? 940 cc! Wow, that is really small. So this must be a destroked version of the 997cc 105E Anglia engine. Remind me, what was the displacment of the "Valencia" Kent engine in the first Spanish-built Fiestas? I know it was smaller than 997, was it also a 940cc?

The Escort was made in Germany for Europe market, and it is 1972 model, as for 940cc, I have no idea about the history behind it except that I know it was for Italian market only, guess we will have to find out more via Google search? LOL

My curiosity is up, so I did a web search for Ford Kent 940 and Ford Escort 940 – so far I can’t find anything on this engine in English. The Valencia Kent built is Spain for the Fiesta didn’t happen until 1976 and was a 957cc engine. I wonder if the 940 was not a Kent at all, but something else – seems unlikely.

I could find out by asking the experts on www.oldskoolfords.co.uk or www.turbosport.co.uk about the history behind 940cc engine whether it is pre-crossflow or crossflow models for Italian mk1 Escort?

Found another comment from this guy from AVO site who research about 940cc (or as he put it as 950cc)

The 950cc engine was not available in the UK as the base model here was the 1100 (1098cc actually). This was supplemented by the 1300 (1297cc) in both standard and GT trim. The GT version used a Weber carb and hotter cam producing 72bhp. This same engine was also used in the Sport. Apparently very few 950's were sold across Europe the general inclination being to get the 1100. I seem to recall the 950 as being described as "underpowered"!

The early Sport featured the Rev Counter mounted in a pod on top of the dash along with the 1100 instrument binnacle but the late ones used the 6 dial dash from the GT, 1300E and XLS cars.

The 950cc engine later on re-appeared in mildly modified form to allow it to be used for front wheel drive as the Valencia unit in the smallest engined Fiesta. The 950 Fiesta wasn't exactly quick - 85mph and 17.6 seconds to 60. Compare that to a current 1000cc Daihatsu Charade which does 93mph and 0-60 in 15 seconds or the Escort TC which could reach 113 mph and 0-60 in 9.9 seconds. Gives an idea of what a 950 Escort with less than half the power of the Twink would be like.

MK4 and MK6 were made in Argentina, and the MK5 in Brazil...
But in Uruguay exist until in this days, a lot of MK1, Mk2 and MK3!
I cant import to Argentina any car of other country, because it is very expensive!!!!!!! Im so angry mate about this.
I would like to have an MK1 or MK2 too!! Maybe both, hehehe
