Old poster returning with a 105e Estate

Post by Welshie »

Hi All,

I've been a long time lurker/poster in here as a British Expat due to my dad having a 105E back home, and my desire to potentially get a European Ford out here.

Well that time has come! Long story short, my father found a LHD estate in France as a barn find and has decided he doesnt want it anymore, so pending inspection as to what spares it needs and preparing it for shipping, it will be shipped to me this summer:

I understand spares availability out here won't be as good as the US, but are there any recommended places?

I look forward to keeping you updated with progress.

Welcome, Iwan. We exchanged messages a day or so ago. Forgot to ask if the Estate has the original engine still, maybe a 105E 997 ?

Good luck,

Pete

Nice, it needs some work but it looks solid enough, I really like these wagons. I was surprised to read that the wagon variant of the 105e was designed by a Canadian.

Well done there sir.

Does anyone know if I can buy paint based on the cars paint code here in the US?

Most likely paint shops won't have the old paint mix formulas anymore. Nowadays they can exactly match the original paint by taking a photo of the dash or inner trunk lid.

According to my paint supplier, older paint codes typically do not work with modern paints. He also will not try to match a photo because photos don't really match the paint. They are affected too much by whatever light was available when it was shot.

Well, shipping is no provisionally booked for June 12th! So I should receive it later that month. In the meantime my brother and dad started looking over it today to see what it needs to get running. I have a new stainless exhaust system being sent there next week for starters.

In the meantime, there was a lot of dirt and dry matter under the rocker cover!

It all hoovered up just fine I'm told, and was pretty clean otherwise.

When my dad got it in 2014 it did turn over but wouldnt today, so diesel has been left in the bores for a few days and it should free up.

Magic eye time!

Bores look good, but those eagle eyes will see that both valves are open on cylinder 3. Hopefully a persuasive tap on the top of the valve stem will free it off.

Fuel tank is empty with some residual gunk in there:

It's rust free though which is good. I'm looking at the best ways to clean it out. I;ve read putting a load of marbles in there to agitate dirt, then washing it with water and cleaner does the trick but I'm all ears.

Finally, the underneath looks solid with one 2 small patches that need welding.
