For once this may have been someone getting their hands on the car, believing it was genuine based on the look of the car and the paperwork which accompanied it.zephyrgary wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 9:40 pm Withdrawn. Lots of questions regarding authenticity. Oh dear.

They even showed the various VIN and body numbers which they surely would NOT have done had they known the car was bogus.
Genuine error?
Regardless, there is now a Mk1 Lotus Cortina REPLICA out there for sale...possibly.

So was it the same car that a BAT commenter posted a link to, which sold on Bonham's for $57,200?

I believe so. In the comments, a guy named Lou who is the Lotus Cortina registrar in the Us alludes to the fact this has happened several times. He says they should do better due diligence on Cortinas to remain credible. He is not wrong.

Back in the day, (early '70s) back in the old country I went to have a look at a Mk1 Locort. As we arrive I see what looks like an white 1200, stop, talk to the owner/conman, knowing as soon I get close enough that it bogus. kick the tires, pop the hood and sure enough, just a basic Cortina - the conman/owner protested that this was the Dutch version of the Locortzephyrgary wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 5:43 pm I believe so. Very annoying as we had travelled a fair distance!
Dropped the hood and drove away and thought to myself, I hope I didn't accidentally pull the HT lead out when I was viewing the "Dutch TwinCam" which would mean the "Dutch Lotus Cortina" would not start.
