Mk1 GT 4 door in SF Bay Area

Post by carl k »

Saw this show up on Craigslist last night. If it were a two door, I'd be at his doorstep this morning!

Good luck with the sale, Pete!

I just listed it last night. Too many EnFos on a small lot in San
Mateo. The Anglia 124E will eventually go to my son. So will
Only be keeping the MK2 Zephyr.
I know it would be easier selling a 2D GT in the States but
no problem selling in NZ or AUS.
Did get a couple of calls and one coming over this weekend
from Danville. Hopefully not a flipper.

Very nice. I have no problem with "more doors." I know the Brit plate is year correct (D suffix for 1966) but an export temporary would have had a yellow border back in the day. I'm guessing it was just an add on. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Good luck.

Not an add on Gary. Original issued plate.
Virgil, previous owner, purchased the car in San Bruno, Ca.
in 1966. In those days Ford had this program when any one
purchase an English Ford in the States one can have it
delivered or picked up at qualified cities in England.
Virgil chose London as that was where he spent his family
vacation. Two temporary plates were issued to legally drive
the car in England. Afterwards, Ford shipped the car to
California. He left the front English plate
attached when registered in San Mateo.
I still have all the records and flier program from Ford.

Perhaps the yellow paint has faded, not unsurprisingly given where you live. But they denoted to the authorities that it was tax exempt.

Old photos of the car won't show the yellow border as they're
in b/w. Wondering if it would be a good idea to have a yellow
painted border ?

The strip of yellow on these plates was removeable.

There were quite a few buyers to 12K. And I was willing to come down a couple of Ks but no deal was made.
Mixture of flippers and out of State callers. Most calls were story tellers which were only interesting to hear.
I was hoping to sell within California to keep the the black plate on the car. Anyway, waiting for a reasonable offer to come by.

BTW, Brent. Registered the Anglia for Blackhawk BC meet.
Hope to see you there.

Shame this didn’t find a good home at the right price.

A less desirable MkII GT went for over $20k on BAT earlier this year (with some kind of damage on the right inner fender).
