A lot of people seem to remember the "Lady Godiva" Cortina ad from 1968. In the era of the Beatles and swinging London, Ford was playing up the Englishness of the Cortina in late Sixties. 1968 would turn out to be the high water mark for U.S. Cortina sales with 22,983 sold. The orange lights on the grille were unique to the 1968 1/2 federal Cortinas. They are not fog lights, but turn indicators.

1969 was the last year that Ford spent any money advertising the Cortina. A series of print ads, as well as the sales catalog was built around the Union Jack and the lady with the black derby hat. U.S. sales for 1969 were 21,496 and would fall to 10,216 in 1970.

Here is an interesting link realted to this ad.

1969 Mk II Cortina GT ad. The Federal version of the Mk II Cortina GT looked different than its home market equivalent, both inside and out.
