1987 Merkur XR4Ti: By 1987 the European market Sierra XR4i (built in Genk Belgium) had been discontinued, but Wilhelm Karmann GmbH's factory in Rheine, Germany would continue to produce the uniquely North American spec XR4Ti through 1989.
Despite victories on the track in 1987 and 88. Lincoln-Mercury sold only about 4,200 XR4Tis for 1989, and this is the last XR4Ti ad. The last European spec Sierra XR4i had been built in 1985. For 1988 the XR4Ti shed it biplane spoiler and finished up its extended life looking a bit more conservative. Notice that the name "Merkur" appears nowhere in this ad.
