tariffs

Post by mark »

I just got notice from Small Ford Spares that tariffs go into effect on Aug 29 for U.S. Based customers.
Not trying to start a political discussion, just want to let everyone know in case you did not get the notice from SFS. I assume the same is true with other suppliers like Burton Power. So think about getting your order in if have been holding off like me.

Just read today. Expect a substantial increase in foreign car parts beginning in 2026.

Tariff percentages are determined by country of purchase.
I tried to buy strut mount caps for my Zephyr from basics in New Zealand.
Here is their reply:
Hi Pete

Thanks for your question. We would like to ship these to you. Unfortunately our shipping partner NZ Post has put all parcel shipments on hold due to the change in tariffs to the US. Freight companies are trying to figure out how it is going to work. From tomorrow all imports to the USA have tariffs that apply from zero value. This is unprecedented I believe and systems are not set up for this with only a few weeks’ notice. So now every single parcel into the US is being taxed, but there is the issue of collecting this tax, especially with the quantity of small value items. Also they have been raised for little NZ to 15% because we do not import enough from the US (we are only 5mil people). I think it going to take a few weeks to sort out. I was forced to turn off our marketing and freight system to the US as a result. We could probably send via DHL but they may be in the same position so I would have to check. Let me know if you would like me to do this.

Cheers

Phil

It makes sense to keep the volatile topic of politics out of the discussion, it's the Elephant in the room and hard to ignore when you realize that the whole issue is caused by bad politics.
