Early Anglebox rises Stateside

In the May 2009 edition of Classic & Sports Car is a short article about an early 105E found in the U.S. According to the Ford 105E club: Oldest 105E in the register 105E-1176 built in 1959. The new owner, Lee Miller, at first was going to install a Miata engine but is now determined to restore the '59 car to original specs.

Hello All,
I still have my car, but unfortunately the restoration has stalled. I managed to get the car disassembled and ready for body work, but my wife doesn't want me to make a mess in the garage. I told her that I could close off my part of the garage so that the mess would be contained, but she wasn't buying it. I am still hoping to convince her to let me give it a try, but if I don't have any luck I will have to take my car somewhere to have the work done, or I will have to sell the car to someone who can restore it properly. I was hoping to get it back on the road to celebrate it's 50th Birthday, but unless I get a move on it looks like it won't be happening. If anyone would like to see pictures of my car you can look through my album at the following link.

Lee,

Quit a few pictures of your Anglia. a worthwhile restoration.

Hopefully you can sort it out and continue the project. I noticed the 5.5" rear rims.

Well that's a shame. You are so far along, I hope that you can work something out.

Was your car originally green, or was it repainted in the 70's? I had wondred if your car might have been yellow with a white top when new.

My car was originally white, and it came with some black California plates in the trunk. I was hoping the plates would match some pictures I found of a car that was used for a review when it first came out, but it wasn't that easy. I tried to find out more about my cars heritage through the Washington and California DMV, and even Ford over in England, but no one has been able to help me. My car has some features that didn't make it into production, which the car used for the review also had, so it may very well be the same car, but without the original license plates I can't prove it. Oh well, it is still a special car, and I hope to have it looking like it use to in the near future.

JOZ 935 last registered through May of 1977

That makes sense that you don't have the original plates as the gold on black came out in 1963 (I remember watching my dad change them out on our '59 Ranch Wagon).

Is that Floyd Cylmber (sp?) in the photos?

Yes it is. They had a Lot of pictures from his estate for sale and I downloaded copies of them just to have them. A handbook he wrote with some of the same pictures is currently on eBay for $25 if anyone is interested (item 150184147186). I should probably buy it, but I haven't been able to make myself fork out the money for it yet.

If the Black plates were replaced by the original owner,
the car would have come from the Salinas,Modesto area,aprox.
In California they used to start with the first letter of "A" at the
Oregon border,& "Z" near the Mexican border.
