Vintage Racing a Mk1 Cortina GT

Hello all,

As some of you might know by now I'm going through a divorce and it will reach a pinnicle when the house is sold. Knowing that it will possibly sell next year I've decided that at 57yrs. old I would like to follow my dream of finely getting into a race car before last minute bucket list has to be decided.

Most of you know I own both Minis and Cortinas...my question is should I take my nice MK1 GT and develope it into vintage race car or find one already done? My sense (cents) is telling me to find one already done, any thoughts? I would much prefer racing a RWD instead of FWD although the FWD is better in the wet Pacific Northwest but I would enjoy the challenge in a Cortina.

Your gut is right on this one. Always buy a race car that has already been prepared if you want to keep costs reasonable. To take a nice road going car and destroy its very driveability in order to make it into a racecar is the very definiton of "throwing good money after bad." Plus, if you get a known race car and race it on the same tracks as the previous owner you gat an instant barometer of how you are doing. I say buy a used race car, refresh where necessary and enjoy.

Thanks Gary for your input it's about what I thought I would do, go for a built car. Anyone know one for sale? I considered an Austin Healey Sprite mk4 that's already set up but I would like more hp with a hard top.
The one thing the soon to be ex did after giving me the bone is that she wanted me to keep my cars (and in writing) so that's one good thing!
