65 lotus cortina starter.

Post by andy spain »

Hi,looking for a starter for my nov 65 Lotus Cortina ,its the U.S. model and therefor has the lucas pre-engaged type, with 10 teeth, these are the nos on the main body,
M35G,25109A, and on the soliniod are 0275 lucas 9s 76765 12v er.
I would rather replace it like for like but its proving hard to find.

Andy,

All Cortina Mk1 ncluding Lotus C MK1 models have a 110 tooth flywheel thus matched with a 9 tooth starter inertia type or pre-engaged.
I don't think a 10 tooth starter would work unless the ring gear was changed.
The one on ebay is a 9 tooth.

Thanks Pete,
Yea 9 seems to right,i have been told that the parts book shows the 25109a starter to be the correct model for my car,(nov 65),,so somewhere along the line the bendix must have been changed to a 10 tooth one.
I cannot track down a replacement 25109a,so the million dollar question is will the e bay one do the job,if as you say has 9 teeth?(awaiting comformation from seller)
Andy.
