MK 2 Engine color

Post by Kiwi Cortina »

I am about to start putting paint on my MK2 finally and not sure what the engine color is supposed to be. Currently the block is blue and the head and rocker cover are black. Looking at pictures and it is a mix of black and blue engines. What is the correct color?

N.American imported Cortina MK2 engines are painted black. Some later MK2 had the W/P and timing cover painted black from the factory.

Thanks Pete. I'm not sure I like the black but I'll have to think about it before final paint.

I am not sure if you are a stickler for originality or not but I blew on some blue paint, I can't remember if it was Ford or Chrysler blue but it looks okay to me. Here is a couple if pictures for your reference.

That looks good. The blue I was thinking is a little darker like the Ford 289 color.

Yes, I think you are right about the Ford colour being a bit deeper blue. I would say though use whatever colour you like but I thought the black looked a bit drab unless you are chasing originality? Have fun with it.

Looks good and your alternator brackets looks nice and compact too, not like those overbuilt Pinto 1600 parts on my crossflow.
