Ford Taunus - Long Gone But Not Forgotten

Post by stanchfi »

Just got back from the Chicago Auto Show. They had a nice display of past concept and special cars, and a section on "European Brands - Long Gone But Not Forgotten" including the 1959 Ford Taunus.

The text reads:

1959 Ford Taunus

As a placeholder in showrooms before the compact Comet came in for 1960, Lincoln-Mercury dealers offered the West German Ford Taunus 17M from late 1958. This display at the 1959 Chicago Auto Show showed off the new offerings including the two-door sedan in front and two-door Combi-Wagon beneath the sign. To make Mercury folks feel at home, side trim and frontal styling very similar to the 1956 models was featured. Taillights drew heavily from the 1955-56 Fords. The rear wheel drive lineup was powered by a 103.5 CID OHV four, producing 67 horsepower.

Not forgotten at my house - my Kombi still sits in the garage.
