Help for parts in Canada

Post by RS.Escort »

Hi Folks..

I am searching for glass channel rubber for my MK 1 Cortina Estate..

I need the back hatch glass rubber, both rear side glass rubbers ( lt and rt fixed of course ) , and the rear door fixed vent glass rubbers, left and right again..

I know, an impossible task. Has anyone had success substituting other rubbers for those items, or knows where I might find them?

I also am going to need rockers, floors, posts for my 105E, if anyone has a good source for that as well.

Thanks Mark Collet British Columbia Canada

Mark,

Welcome. Looks like you have quite the collection. Is your Escort the blue one that came out of southern California a few years ago. I know that that car was sold to someone in the Vancouver area.

Micheal,

It was the same guy that I sold the Corsair 4 door to.

Argg I wrote a whole bunch of stuff, previewed it then couldn't get back to edit and lost it..

Now it's the short version..

Spectrum were great, but need to have the old rubbers to help me out, which I don't have.. figures

The Express Steel stuff is fab.. I wouldn't even start this Anglia if i had to make the panels myself. Thanks ever so much. I hope they ship to Canada..

Yes I was the guy that bought the blue Escort from Simon Masters..

I was expecting a sorted car, maybe even that I could drive home..

WRONG..

The car was an electrical and mechanical mess..It took us almost 30 minutes just to get it on the trailer. Some work on the car is very nice, some looks like a 3 year old did it..

I would never be able to advertise a car first in show and then produce something like that to a guy driving across the country to buy it.. But that's just me..

Still, there are no other Escorts around, so I'm glad in the long run that i grabbed it.

It now has a bias brake pedal, compbrake aluminum calipers all around, rewired, new dash pod and guages, new fuel cell and delivery system, and a Zetec going in..

Oh and new RS alloys ( the real deal ) to replace the 4 bent rims that were on the car..

Oh and technically I'm not in Vancouver, but 40 mins east of it in Abbotsford.

IF I was computer literate, I'd post some pics

The UK based Anglia 105E owners club also have a parts department but I'm not sure if they ship to Canada. They probably have the same panels and floor sections as express panels. The url is:

http://www.fordanglia105eownersclub.co.uk/

Worth joining if you're not already a member. Is the Anglia going to be a circuit racer? I went to Brands Hatch here in the UK recently for a historic race meeting and there were four Anglias in the saloon race plus Mk1 Lotus Cortinas. Very good to watch.

Yes I tried them, they will not ship to Canada due to liability..

I'm not sure exactly how I could sue someone in a foriegn country for anything, but there you go..

It's odd as I am a member of the MK1 Cortina club and get spares from them all the time.

If I get desperate for something I will try to find someone neutral to get the parts and ship them to me..

I thought that might be the case as I knew the club didn't ship to the US because of the potential litigation problems that could arise. Likewise some US companies will not ship to the UK which is a pain if I need something for my Chevy. Luckily I have friends in the US and Canada who will either bring stuff over or send it to me.

If you do get desperate for something I'll see if we can work something out for you. Hope the Anglia comes along nicely!

Also the Mk 2 Cortina owners club wont sell spares to North American club members due to liability reasons. Their insurance company wont allow it.

I remember the club chairman quoted; Due to the the sue happy society that exists in america today, spares cannot be sold to club members in North America, nor can someone from North America come to England and buy spares from the club knowing that they will be going to America.

The way around it is to get a club member friend in England to purchase the items and post them on to you.

Yes that just bites.. It's hard enough finding parts for these cars out here without being refused support from an aftermarket parts supplier..Image

With a floor like this, we definately need all the help we can get!

Yes that is a hard pill to swallow especially since they dont mind you paying to join to become a member but wont sell spares to you.

Along with the liability thing, I think the clubs, knowing the limited amount of spares available and the amount of people in the U.S. with these cars, dont want too many parts being sent out of the country. As well, they dont seem to realize just how hard is is to get anything for an English Ford on this side of the world.

Good luck with the Anglia and let us know how you get on with Ex-pressed panels.
