Mk2 Cortina Lower Control Arm ball joint rebuild

Post by carl k »

Hi all-

Are rebuild kits available for the ball joints on Mk2 Cortina lower control arms? Specifically the pressed and welded steel style? Just wondering if the ones I have can be saved or should go into the bin.

thanks!

I can't recall for sure if the Mk2 is rebuildable but I suspect it might not be? I do know the cast 105e and 100e track arms are rebuildable though. I was looking at some of my photos, you can see the lighter colored track arms, those are after market Mk2 cast track arms that I bought out of Australia. You might want to consider going that route and you get stronger arms in the process.

Hi Carl,

Years ago a suspension shop in San Jose inserted a universal ball joint
Within the cavity of the MK2 t/c arm. I don't know of anybody
doing that anymore.
Graeme of EnFord spares sells t/c arms 3034E-3078-TW @
$NZ136.00 ea which is very reasonable.

Thanks Pete. I do have a pair of the new cast ones from OZ. I'm going to be shortening them for my Anglia 105E so I thought I'd practice on some pressed steel arms first. All my pressed steel ones have bad ball joints. If they were cheaply repairable, I'd experiment on the pressed steel ones.
