My name is Tom Thaxton I go by TAVSMGB. I own a 1953 Ford Prefect upright. I need to know how much oil does the engine take. I have put 3 and a half quarts and it is above the dip stick fill level bt about 1/2 in. I am putting just 30 weight oil and am adding a bottle of additive that hase zink in it. I do not have a oil filter..I need an opinion.

Hi there,
According to my records, the 1172 engine up to 1955 has the following capacities
4.5 imperial pints (Brit measurement) or 5.4 US pints without filter
OR
5.25 imperial/6.3 US pints with filter.
Either way it seems you have overfilled it a touch. Nothing that a good hard thrash couldn't burn off in a few miles, though...
