I had my distributor for a 1968 GT spec crossflow rebuilt by a "specialist". He installed a Pertronix 1243-A Ignitor. This is a trigger model. I was told by another parts "specialist" that the motorcraft distributor for the Cortina crossflow GT engine should use the Pertronix 1241LS which is a lobe sensing unit. Something is afoul as I cannot get the trigger and cap and rotor to fit properly. Either the cap or rotor or trigger or all are incorrect.
Anyone have any experience with a Pertronix installed into this distributor.
I also had the Weber 32DFD rebuilt by another "specialist". While the linkages were re-plated and the carb body clean and shinny it was assembled incorrectly and the engine ran poorly. I am surprised it even ran. The venturies were loose as they lost their interference fit, the fuel distribution tube for the accelerator pump was missing the check ball and lead plug, the "gam" plugs that belong pressed into the cover and protrude through holes in the gasket were just lying in blind holes in the body. I have purchased all the components required to assemble the carb properly and I will be billing the "specialist" for the time and parts. This is one of many screw ups I had to unravel on every car I have restored. Specialist is a dirty word with me.

Pertronix in motorcraft
1241
If your 1241 was a lobe sensing unit as opposed to a trigger unit then it is a 1241LS. LS=lobe sensing.
Where can I get the proper rotor and cap for this Motorcraft unit? I may be able to compare the rotor and cap presently have and compare.

1243 petronix
I found on the net an older application sheet for Pertronix.
They listed the 1243 unit for the cross flow motorcraft. This may be why the distributor rebuilder used it. I did call Pertronix and they say they do not have the Cortina GT crossflow with motorcraft application listed. They also do not presently show the distributor listed by make and number. Possibly they had problems with the 1243 and removed it as a crossflow motorcraft part.

Then mine is a trigger unit installed on an Autolite dist.
The Cortina MK1/2 imported to N.America that had the Ford distributor >66 were Autolites. These caps were installed for these models:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/141009176656?ss ... 1423.l2649
The Capri/Pinto 1600 uses a similar cap that is approx. 12 degrees off mounting position requiring the distributor to re-position anti-clockwise.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/270334111988?ss ... 1423.l2649
I know that this is confusing but both caps are interchangeable and should fit on any 1600 c/f autolite and probably motorcraft dist. which is Ford
Two type of 1600 rotors, deluxe and GT, both will work

new distributor?
There appears no way the 1243A in my FoMoCo distributor is compatible with the standard rotor and cap.
I am using the Pertronix new distributor D1906. I am uncertain at the present but it may be giving me problems albeit it is new. What new distributor could I purchase for my cross flow 1968 GT spec engine? I see Mallory makes an electronic (LED triggered) distributor for the Pinto but I doubt that would fit.
There are some other ones available from the UK but it could be more junk.
Any suggestions as to a replacement if it proves necessary?
I also have been working on the Weber 32DFD. All has been rebuilt and re-jeted but I still get some rough running at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and it will stall out if I depress the throttle very quickly.
I have adjusted and checked the accelerator pump and replaced the accelerator pump discharge valve assembly.
I am begging to think there may be a blockage in an internal air/fuel passage. I have a spare "parts" carburetor and I an soaking the body in cleaner in anticipation of replacing the current carb body. The cover may also have to be swapped as I have no idea how it fits.
The fun never ends.
