Tweaking a Fiesta for better mileage and perfromance

I just bought a bone stock 1980 Ford Fiesta and would like to make some modifications that would further enhance fuel economy (and performance). It retains all stock emission equipment and hypothetically speaking, I was wondering what benefit could be obtained by removing the air pump, fitting an exhaust header with a freeflowing exhaust system and some sort of less restrictive aircleaner? Would the increase in mileage be worth the expense of such modification? If one were to remove the air pump, what do you do with all the hoses attached to it? Again, we are speaking hypothetical here.

Thanks,
Gerg

Greg,

So what condition is the Fiesta in? Can you say what you paid for it? In addition to this Forum, you might contact Dave Burroughs (EFONA’s Fiesta TA) directly. His contact info is in your EFONA Member’s Guide.

Hi Michael,

I paid $1,200 for it, probably $200 too much, but so far, no regrets. I will have to look up Dave.

Thanks,

Craig
