Escort mark 2 body panels

Post by sensh »

Does anyone know which (if any) of the body panels on a 4-door Mk2 Ford Escort are interchangeable with the 2-door cars?

Specifically, I am wondering if I can fit the Mexico front spoiler to my 4-door Mk2, and also if the hood (bonnet) is the same on both models.

Thanks in advance,

I would assume that the front end ( fenders, hood, front valance ) would be the same on the 2D and 4D as on the Cortina MK1/2 and Escort MK1.

The front end is indeed the same but if one hapens to have an estate or van there is a total different story .
The Escort MK2 estate and van use an Escort MK1 body with Escort MK2 frontpannel and bonnet with frontwings specialy made to fit to MK1 doors and Mk2 frontpanel .

It's a lot more complicated than that. I worked in the bodyhop of a Ford Main Dealer, and a very odd job I got was to reshell a MkI Escort van, upgrading by using a MkII van shell. Almost bugger all fitted! Door handles, pedal box, dash, you name it, it was different. It cost a fortune in nuts and bolts: the MkI used Imperial (same as SAE) while the MkII used metric.

I didn't earn a lot of bonus on that job!
