Distributor Stuck in the Head (1172 Sidevalve)

Post by PWilson45 »

Distributor won't budge and I don't want to break the casting.
Any suggestions for nondestructive removal?
Thanks,
Pete

Only way if it's really stuck - and they often are - is to remove the head and drift it out from below, using a socket just a bit smaller than the outside diameter of the drive dog.

Brutal, but there's no other real way without risking damage to the distributor body.

Thanks, as suggested it required removal of the head.
I took it to a sympathetic machine shop and he pressed it out.
