Find car by Engine # ?

Post by Langlia »

Is this something that's possible?

I'm curious as to where my engine came from, I have the # Stamped on it, JA83830 , Which I can tell is from a 1969 Mk2 Cortina. That's all I can seem to find out about it.

Fairly confident this is it featured on BAT a number of years ago.

And here it is in the truck.

Located on the lower rear L/H side of the c/f block is a # stamped either:
2737E 6015 ( early 1600 ) or 681E 6015 ( later blocks ). 711E were Capri and Pinto blocks. 771E Fiesta

It's a 681F block,

More so I'm curious if there's a database where you just plug in the engine serial number and it tells you the VIN of the car it came from

I am fairly sure that the English cars don't have numbers matching Engine Trans and body like the American manufactured cars do.

the 100e series does definitely have the chassis numbers engraved on the engine block but I think Ford stopped doing that in later vehicles?? I can't find evidence of chassis numbers on any of my crossflow engines?

They went over to the new system in October 1961, Brett. The last 100E Populars used it, and the VIN number bore no relationship to the engine number.

Yes that sounds about right, I just had a look in my book and it shows the same.

Interesting numbers, I will have to have a look at the blocks I have and see what's on them?
