Post by Langlia »

What would be recommended for a 1.6 XFlow, Using Inertia starter, Battery in boot.. I'm not a battery guy, can't tell you the last time I bought one. Any general range I should be looking for?

Original battery for the Cortina 1/2 is a 29NF rated @ ~480 amps.
As you are placing the battery in the trunk i would get the smallest car battery available with at least equal amperage.

The lighter and smaller the battery with > 450 amps and > 390 CCA ( cold
cranking amps ) will provide enough amperage for all your electrical needs.
esp. placing it in the trunk. Fitting a 50 lbs diesel truck battery will provide the same amount of current as a 12 lbs battery. Only difference is that the 50 lbs battery has enough reserve to spin your starter longer or until it burns out.

The important thing isn't the size of the battery but the resistance of the cable to the starter, which increases in proportion to length, and decreases with the square of its diameter. In English, you need a good, thick cable.
