Thanks Brett. Yes it's a 1.6 xflow I realize now that was a very vague post. Confirmed with two other people I need a flat flywheel. I brought in a 132 tooth to get skimmed and it had a very very small step.
That is interesting, perhaps someone was trying to create a bit more clamping pressure on the clutch disc? When I worked at a Vancouver BMW dealership I used to machine a .3 MM step when it was necessary to resurface the flywheel because they were that way from the factory. I am talking about the mating surface where the pressure plate sits being .3MM lower.
Anything is possible. I see Burton sells them with and without a step.
The stock ones appear to have no step.. anything that accepts a racing clutch seems to have the step. Maybe because it can handle more clamping pressure?
