Mk1 Estate Won't Fire

Post by Kiwi Cortina »

I'm stumped,

Been trying to get my Estate to fire. It was last used in May so it has been sitting for 6 months and nothing has been touched.
This is what I have done so far.

New Coil, New leads, New Cap, New Points, New rotor, Tested condenser its good.

I have 11.75 Volts at Coil, Have spark at points and spark at all plugs. I have checked valves to make sure that they are not sticking. It is getting fuel.

I have spent more than 16 hours trying to get it to fire. Nothing. also used starter fluid thinking the gas may be a little old at 6 months in the tank.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Brent

Brent,

I still make simple and obvious mistakes, so here it goes. You mentioned that the ign wires were replaced. Are they in the right firing order CCW rotation.

Does it spit out the carb when turning over.

Pete,

Checked and triple checked, 1243 CCW. It does spit out the carb when i give it too much gas.

Has the distributor been removed or even moved that would effect timing.

Has not been removed. I have now tried small adjustments to see if it would fire. But no.

Electrical part seems to be ok. Might be the same problem with the carb again.
