Patrick Wilson's Bronte Photos

Post by IFHP »

Photos from English Car Day 2007 at Bronte Park. Photos by Patrick Wilson. Captions provided by Bob Oloman, with additional comments by Michael MacSems

Thank you Patrick & Bob for this!

Some of the Fords on display (Patrick's car is the yellow Zodiac).

From Puslinch, ON, a '59, blue, Prefect, owned by Larry Read.

Image
From Mississauga, ON, a Mk.l, '63 Lotus Cortina, a car with a race/rally provenance, owned by Ron Goldsack.

LoCort interior.

Image
From Sarnia, ON, a '64, blue, Anglia 105E, owned by Jeffery Park.

Image
Circa 1976 Capri II. This car used to be owned by a NAEFR member.

Image
From Wainfleet, ON, a '61, blue, Consul 315, owned by Jim Farr.
This is the only road worthy Consul 315 known to exist in North America.

Image
From Cobourg, ON, a '61, blue, Mk.ll, blue Zephyr, owned by Bernie Mellon. This car was almost a match for my Company car while on assignment with Ford Rhodesia in 1961.

Image
From St. Catherines, ON, a '62, blue Anglia 105E, (which won the Best of Category) , owned by Keith Courchaine, together with his '61, black, - red trim, Anglia 105E (below).

Image
Sweet 105E Anglia, formerly owned by a NAEFR member.

Image
From Oakville, ON, our original, un-restored, '67, aqua, Cortina. ( EFONA member Bob Oloman's 1967 Cortina. He has owned it since new).

Image
Surprise! From Smithville, ON, a 1990 white Transit Van! - shown by Gord and Wendy Welham.

By my count there were 11 Fords (10 English & 1 German) at Bronte this year. That may be a record. I hope the owners of these cars find EFONA and this website.

According to Bob, there was another English Ford in attendance, not shown here. A black 1961 Consul 375 (faux) police car, owned by John Tatham.

Bronte English Car Day 2008 Photos

Post by IFHP »

Here are some photos that Patrick Wilson took at Bronte 2008.
Bob Oloman wrote a report to go with the photos that will appear in the Fall 2008 E-Ford Lines.

RHD 1958 Zodiac owned by Stan Shillington.

Image

A 100E Popular (RHD) owned by Mark & Lisa Guy. Judging by the Ford oval on the trailing edge of the front fender, this is a 1961 or '62 model.

Image

Bernie Mellon and his 1961 Zephyr.

Image

105E Anglia owned by Keith Courchaine.

Image

Image

Bob Oloman and is one-owner 1967 Cortina.

Image

Image

An Australian spec I-6 Mk III Cortina. Owner Allan Park has mad some progress on this car since last displaying it here in 2006.

Image

Modified 1971 Capri owned by Les Roberts.

Image

1977 Capri "S" owned by Les Roberts. It is nice that the organizers of the Bronte meet are letting Capris in, even when they hail from Germany.

Image

The wildcard would be this mid-Ninties Escort RS Cosworth owned by Shane McComb.

Looking closely at the photos I see a couple of Fords that Patrick missed: A blue E493A Prefect and what appears to be a second black Mk II Capri.

Thanks again to Patrick for taking these pictures and sharing them with the rest of us. Great turnout!

Bronte English Car Day, September 20, 2009
Report by Bob Oloman

Once again, the Show Committee of the aptly-named Toronto Triumph Club, proved their mettle, by successfully negotiating for perfect weather for the annual British Car Day at Bronte Provincial Park, Oakville, Ontario. A week earlier, the forecast had been for a day of pouring rain.
As it turned out however, only the morning dew on the freshly-shorn grass would dampen the tires of the thousand or so cars attending this show, the 26th Annual such event; this time recognizing the Centenary of The Morgan Motor Company.

With our trusty, original/un-restored, 1967 Cortina, consigned once more to category XX (production sedans,1960 and later) in the far south-east corner of the show-fields, we found ourselves among the early arrivals and parked beside Keith Courchaine's 1961 Anglia 105E - last year's Class Winner! Refreshed with a nice cup of coffee from the nearby Oakville Lions Club stall, your writer was soon off on his pleasant task to record for posterity this year's English Ford entries. Eleven, all told, and there were some surprises in store:

- 1934 Model Y(!) Black. Jonathan and Robert Kearns of Toronto, Ontario.

- 1950 Prefect. Metallic Maroon. With V-8 engine(!) and suspension and tires to suit.
Mike and Linda Hitton of Burlington, Ontario.

- 1958 Consul Convertible(!) Red, conversion by Carbodies Limited of Coventry. Fully restored
from scrap condition, - trailered to the Bronte Show by Ken Doehring, Bourbonnais, Illinois!

- 1960 Zodiac. Yellow/white tutone. Patrick Wilson of Deep River, Ontario.

- 1961 Anglia 105E. Black. Keith Courchaine, St. Catherines, Ontario.

- 1961 Zephyr. Light blue. Bernie Mellon, Cobourg, Ontario.

- 1962 Consul. Black - faux police car. John Tatham - dressed for constabulary duty - from
Georgetown, Ontario.

- 1962 Popular. Light green. Ex New Zealand & USA. Mark Guy, London, Ontario.

- 1964 Corsair. Pale green/white tutone. Allan Stoller, Oakville, Ontario.

- 1965 Lotus Cortina Mk I. White, in stripped, rally condition. Richard Sharpe, Toronto, ON.

- 1967 Cortina Mk II. Aqua. Bob and Margaret Oloman, Oakville, Ontario. (Purchased from Oakville Motors in April 1967 as Margaret's Birthday Car.)

Needless to say, in addition to these vehicles of the Ford Family, there were many others which attracted my attention, including: a fine, 1959 Austin London Taxi; Darrell McDonald's (formerly Norm Hain's) 1950 Morris Minor - now fully restored; and Carl Phillips' immaculate, bright red, MG TF. The cheerful conversations of the day were to include some enthusiastic words with famed National Post archival writer, Bill Vance and his wife Beth. One of Bill's articles, last year, had featured a picture of our faithful old Cortina.

And so, another memorable British Car Day at Bronte Provincial Park drew to a close. There had been a truly warm and friendly feeling about it all and I was glad that I had spent a little greasy time beforehand in trying to relieve our dear Cortina's pain in the disc (brake). We wonder if we'll make it to the show again, but then we'd wondered that last year too.

2009 Bronte English Car Day Photos by Patrick Wilson

Patrick writes:

Ken's 1958 Consul Convertible is a stunning car that received lots of attention. Its a cleverly engineered original car with some very hard to find parts such as the bell housing from one of just six Zephyr 4 Mk 3 automatics ever built. The engine has been upgraded with a special camshaft, larger valves and a "one off" set of exhaust extractors. Because you cannot buy a Mk 2 convertible with an autobox (reinforcements to the floor pan prevent installation of the BW DG autobox) Ken used a BW Type 35 from a Cortina. The whole combo works really well especially with a diff from a Zephyr to improve highway gearing.

Turn out at Bronte was great - 1200 cars according to one organizer. It was a 700 mile two day trip for the Zodiac. The 3.54:1 diff conversion from a Mk 3 has transformed the car into a really enjoyable highway hauler. Next job is polyurethane bushings for the track control arms to cure some clunking in the front end. Seems the inner rubber ones need replacement every two years!

Cheers,

Patrick

That's a very nice turn out of cars, makes me proud to be English! Ken's Consul Convertible looks excellent, that was a hard restoration.
