Post by IFHP »

Vancouver BC, Van Dusen Garden's ABFM 2022

Saturday, May 21st, 2022

https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/vancouver-a ... 9114127677

I might attend as a spectator this year. English Ford is listed as a featured marque. Anyone from here bringing a car?

Featured marque anniversary celebrations, carried forward from 2020 & 2021, are Triumph Stag’s 50th, English Ford’s 100th, and Jaguar E-Type’s 60th anniversary.

Odd, 2020-2022 is not the 100th anniversary of anything related English Ford. Maybe they mean 110th anniversary as the for English assembled Model T emerged from Traford Park in 1911. Or maybe the mean 90th anniversary as the first Model Y was built in 1932?

Or maybe the ABF...which never got off the ground.

20% chance of precipitation according to forecasters, sorry - weather people - sorry meteorologists or whatever they are calling these people this week.

PS, precipitation is any product of the condensation of atmospheric water vapor that falls to ground under gravitational pull from clouds - or what we call rain at this time of the year, given the predicted ambient temperature. :D

We just had our little "Brit Bunch For Lunch" group do a small show at one of the local cidery's here on the Sunshine Coast and the weather worked well for us. I was the only Ford although the home built special was all ford parts. We even made the local paper.

Yes it was a fair turnout considering the size of our group on the Coast but there were a number of cancellations due to the fear of rain that never happened. You are a Morgan guy so you might appreciate this bit of trivia. The white Morgan pictured here belongs to a friend of mine in our group, it was G.B. Sterne's last personal driver, he bought it from the Sterne family in 2018.

Brett.
Yes, I went with Tom over to Courtney to look at the +8 before Tom purchased it.

An interesting trivia point....the front bumper on the +8 is off one of GB's early Morgans..late 50's I believe. He just transferred it to each new Morgan he acquired.

Now that you mention it I do recall Tom talking about you. I was looking at some of my Fathers old photos that he took at the Westwood track and found this one of Sterne in another Morgan, he liked the black and white theme.

In the little show we had here on the Coast there was a neat little Ford Special that looked Lotus 7 like, it is built on an old e49 Anglia chassis with 105e rear axle and a modified crossflow. It is quite good for a homemade car.

Black and White were his "colours". The Morgan in your photo is a RHD +8, the first +8 in Canada.
GB went to the factory and coerced Morgan to sell him one so he didn't have to be on the waiting list which was about a year or so if I remember. In a good year we would receive maybe 8 or9 cars.

That little special looks like a lot of fun, lightweight and a 1600, I would think it goes very well.

Here are some of the Fords at the Vancouver All British Field Meet although not all were in Group #54. The Lotus Cortina put himself in with the Lotus boys and the little hot rod 1936 Ford Model CX was in with the modified cars.
The weather was outstanding, cool in the shade and hot in the sun.

That cream coloured car to the left of the CX is a replica of a Lister "Knobbly" was built by a friend of mine.

Built from drawings - I first saw it some 4 years ago when it was just a pile of metal bits waiting to be welded together...

He formed all the panels by hand/english hammer and put the engine together to replicate the original as well.

Here is what the engine looks like had I thought to take a photo :D
