Question --
Is the Dagenham 4-speed used in the Falcon Sprint and some Zephyr/Zodiacs the same 4-speed used in the Mk I & II Cortina?

Dagenham 4-speed
Michael,
The Dagenham 4-speed fitted to some Falcons and the Mk3 Zephyr/Zodiacs is completely different to the 4-speed fitted in Mk1/2 Cortinas. The Cortina 4-speed was also fitted to the 1200 version of the 105E Anglia, the Corsair 1500 and the Consul Classic and Capri. Later small Fords use a similar 4-speed (Escort Mk1/2, Capri). Hope this helps!

Dagenham 4-speed
Thanks Paul, that clears it up. It makes sense to me that the lighter cars used a different transmission from the bigger cars.

As you are probably aware there were a few different model gearboxes used in mk 1 and mk 2 Cortinas. Mk 1 and early mk 2 base models had the gear lever sat further forward with a longer lever. MK 1 GT/Lotus as well as early Mk 2 GT/Lotus used a similar gearbox except the gear lever was moved to the rear of the unit. These are known as the 2000e box or Bullet box and are highly sought after. One on ebay from around the Detroit area went for $710.00 a few years ago. All 1969 and newer Cortinas used the single rail type 3 unit. I attached a link to a good Ford trans guide here. http://www.zetecinside.com/xr2/gearbox.htm
