Pertronix

Post by peteleo »

Has anyone had trouble with the Pertronix Ignitor 2 electronic ignition ?
I bought a negative ground LU-142A unit, on ebay, for my Lucas distributor using the correct Pertronix 3,0 coil. Apparently dead on arrival. Seller told me to contact Pertronix which I did. So I emailed my concern to a rep ( Ian ) with pictures and receipt. Reply was how do you know it's defective ? Told him that I hooked it up to a 12V source with a volt meter in series and tried to activate it with the ring magnet. No switching, stayed at 12V.
Pertronix may not be at fault could be that the seller sold me a defective unit
but just wondering if anyone else has had that same experience.

I have only had it on My Green GT and had no issues so far.

Hi Brent,

Pertronix is installed on the Zephyr for a few years now with no problem.
The Anglia has the Accuspark ign. no problem either. I was running the Cortina
with points and decided to install a Pertronix unit when this problem occurred.
Just wondering if anyone else came across a new unit that was faulty.
Otherwise I may purchase an Accuspark unit.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Pertronix unit but like anything electrical it usually fails either right away or lasts a long time. It also would not be the first time I have heard of a seller accidentally reselling a warranty return part he had on the shelf?
On a side note, make sure that when you do get an electronic ignition use carbon core resister HT leads and get a heavy duty rotor otherwise you will be in for more letdowns.

Hi Brett,

I'm using Magnegor low resistance ignition wires, with a red rotor, which is apparently ok to use.
I think the company seller sold me a unit that was bad off the shelf.

So, Ian ( Pertronix ) contacted me this morning and will send me a new module.
