Here it is again, seems to come out for sale about this time every year. I think the first time he failed to sell it he was asking around $7500 to $8000.

This the Mk1 Groundhog version, every year, pops its head up and then goes away for another year...

That seems to be the way, the asking price keeps going up every time it comes back so I reckon he doesn't really want to sell it.

This must be the Covid-19 discount, the price has dropped to last year's asking price.

He drops it enough I may have a proper look at it - in some ways this would be an even better candidate than my dear departed GT for an S2000 swap :D

That car has been for sale for years now, I wonder if he would take the original asking price that was in the 7 to 8k range? The 4 doors are a bit of a detraction but it's still a nice looking car and that big automatic transmission tunnel might accommodate a 5 speed without any mods?

Years indeed, if memory serves it is almost a decade since I first saw that car for sale.

My spousal unit has a BMW 328i - she loves the 3 series - maybe I should grab a crashed 328i instead of an S2000, same horsepower as the S2000 much better torque, much lower down the rev range and since it is an automatic...she could drive it.

I will offer him 7K and see how that goes :D

Wow! A 328i engine and autobox in a Cortina, how big is your shoe horn? The BMWs do have nice running gear though and pretty reliable too, I wonder what he would take for that 4 door.

I just had a long text/chat with him and he is absolutely no hurry whatsoever - he has the Enfo disease being an ex Brit and also has more enfos

We are going to meet up next time I am on the island for a BS session - 6 feet apart of course.

Yes, it would take some work to get that 328 drivetrain but in some respects it would be easier than the S2000 I did and there are a LOT more crashed 328s around than S2000s

Do you think she would notice if I stole the drivetrain from her car?
And the brakes, some of the suspension, oh, that rear end too, plus the computers and and and...

I have toyed with the idea of putting my BMW engine in my Green Anglia. I have been driving this 1995 318Ti for 15 years now and it is starting to rust a little bit, the 1800cc engine though puts out about 210 HP and it certainly makes the Ti fly as well as a 6 cylinder Beemer. I modded the cars engine and suspension back in 2008 and it still runs strong, I think the 4 banger would fit the Anglia with a little work.

The stock 318ti was about 140 hp so you must have really worked on it!

Bear in mind that the series of BMW I am discussing are all 4 cylinder, albeit with a turbo so fitting would be a bit easier than with the straight 6...but you really need all the harness/computers/sensors with the newer engines to make sure everything works as and when it should.

You didn't initially say what vintage of BMW you wife drives, I know that BMW has made leaps and bounds with their 4 cylinder engines in recent years but I am not up to speed on their advancements since I retired from the Vancouver Dealership in 2012 after 35 years of wrenching there. I know that the early (stand alone) engine managements are not bad to work with but the later systems are quite complicated and intertwined with many other vehicle systems. It is possible, just not too easy.

I was referring to the latest generation 3 series, she gets newer cars, I have to put up with old ones! :D

I do know about the Wife thing, mine has been wanting a new car for a while now and I bet there are deals to be had at the moment? Regarding the HP increase in the old BMW, it is just bolt on power. Downing Atlanta engineered a supercharger kit for the 4 cylinder vehicles so I bought one for mine, the dynamometer tests have shown 50% increases over stock HP and even more with pully, remapping and injector changes.
