trans shifter removal

How do I get the shifter out of the trans? its a 57 squire

Under the rubber mat / carpet is a large plate held down by self-tapping screws. Remove the mat and the plate. The gear lever can be removed bu unscrewing the large, dome-shaped cover the lever goes into, while the housing itself is retained by the four 1/2" AF bolts now visible. Note that the earth (ground) strap attaches to one of these.
