A movie I saw a number of years ago called "Not without my daughter" featured a white base model (67 I think) Mk 2 Cortina 4 door. It was driven by an american woman who was trying to get out of Iran with her daughter. There were quite a few Cortinas seen in the movie.

There was another one starring Micheal Pare,
I think it was called "The Soldier".It had a cabbie with
a Cortina throughout the movie.

Regarding Cortinas in Iran, it is hard to say for sure because the clips are so short, but those cars that look like Mk II Cortinas might be Paykans. For decades the Paykan, which was based on the Hillman Minx, was the most popular car in Iran.
That said, Ford UK did sell cars in Iran too.

Yes the clips dont do it justice but I saw the whole movie a number of years ago. I am familiar with the Hillman Minx which is similar but these were Cortinas and more around than you would think. One in particular was used alot in the movie by Sally Fields with camera in and out of the car. Check this clip at 1.52-1.56 and at 2.48

Found these pics on imcdb.org
Several Cortinas appear, used as a substitute for the Iranian-made Paykan, which was a Hillman Hunter made under licence: (may explain the confusion)

The Cortinas were used as a substitute for the Paycan as movie may not have been filmed in Iran.

This theory make a lot of sense. The movie was probably filmed in Moraco or another North African country. I guess there were not a lot of Hillmans to use on this location.

Great video that there.
Since we are now adding music videos, in this video by U2 a Mk 2 Cortina can be seen in a few of the scenes.

"CRY FREEDOM" 1987. set in So African Soweto revolt. KevinKline, Denzel Washington...strong political overtones!
"THE FOURTH PROTOCOL" 1987, British. Pierce Brosnan, Michael Kaine. villan drives XR3., lots of UK Fords in shots! a great cold war spy story, with STRONG nuclear overtones! I found it to be VERY exciting! I sure hope U can get yer hands on some/all of these flicks.....Cheers! Ray P.
