Pacific Northwest Import Ford Meet 2009

We had a great turnout for the 10th Annual Import Ford Meet with no less than 21 cars showing – which is not a record, but is an improvement over recent years. These 21 cars consisted of 4 Xr4tis (would have been a fifth, but the car was impounded enroute due to no proof of insurance), 4 Cortinas (3 Mk I s and a Mk II), 3 Mk I Capris, 3 Fiestas (2 Mk Is and a 2009 model), two Aussie Capris and one each of the following, Mk II Zodiac, Scorpio, Mk I Escort RS 2000, 2008 Focus and a Mad Max replica XB Falcon.

This year I reorganized the voting categories for the internal ballots. THis year's winners in the new categories were:

Favorite Import Ford 1932-59: Michael MacSems 1960 Zodiac (a 50’s car in every respect other than actual build date).
Favorite Import Ford 1960-1970: Pete Snyder’s for his freshly restored 1966 Cortina GT 4-door
Favorite Import Ford 1971-1980: Ric Cavallero’s 1973 Escort RS 2000
Favorite Import Ford 1981-1989: Tony Viskov’s 1988 Scorpio
Favorite Import Ford 1990 & up: Rex Miller’s 1994 Capri XR2
Favorite Euro-Capri (CCNA/Team Blitz Prize): Steve Lietch’s 1973 Capri (V8 conversion)
Favorite Merkur (Rapido Prize): Patty Viskov’s 1989 XR4ti
Favorite Import Ford Overall: Ric Cavallero’s 1973 Escort RS 2000
Longest Distance Award: Pete Snyder’s 1966 Cortina GT

Probably the most exciting part of the show for me was the arrival of Brad & Emma (collectively known as “Follow the Fiesta” in one of 100 2009 Ford Fiestas in this county from promotional purposes. The new Fiesta got a lot of attention and lots of group pictures were taken with the car. (This might be the only time that a car with manufacture’s license plates shows up at our meet).

I am grateful to everyone who braved the threat of rain to attend, to Rapido, CCNA and Team Blitz for supporting the event with special marque oriented awards, to Follow the Fiesta for showing up with a cool pre-introduction car and to the Wrangler’s Mustang Club of Oregon for holding the event.

The prize for Favorite Overall was this painting by Portland artist James Rozee.

A word about the photos: This was my first car show with my new 10MP digital camera and I am pretty disapointed with the results. Some of the above pictures are digital and some were taken on a single use film camera and I think the film photos look a lot better. I'm hoping that I just haven't figured out out to get better resolution from my new camera, others wise I'm going back to film!

That's a very commendable turn out of our wondrous Euro Fords. It's funny to see that the latest Fiesta looks bigger than the Mk1 Cortina, it seems that all the cars have expanded in size over the years. I believe the Mondeo wagon is bigger than the old Scorpio wagon! I have fond memories of Mk1 Cortinas as my dad had two maroon saloons which he bought new in the falls of 1963 and 1965. They took a family of five comfortably on trips and on our vacations even though they were only the 1200 Deluxe versions. Thanks for looking after our old cars!

Great pictures, only my second time at the show first car show where I've had a car in it, Even though it was a junker (sporting that rat rod look ) it was a lot of fun. Looking forward to many more.

The black 1978 Fiesta is my, my name is Chris I'm from Canby
I have 2 other fiestas one is currently being rebuilt a 80 the other is my old dd that was totaled a year ago.
I also have a few other cars including 2 mustangs 65 coupe driver and 65 fastback badly in need of restoration(read no floorboards) and a 74 mgbgt.
I had not intended to bring my car into the show I was told by Dan that his was the only one there so I figured why not. Glad I did.
Micheal called it a ratrod theme, I was thinking more on the lines of just ratty but I'm thinking I like the idea and may build on the theme.

Sorry got a little wordy there.

Wisegu, the car is perfect the way it is, I'm the one with the yellow Capri that's parked in front of you,
and I really dig the Fiestas, I've been looking for one for a few years, but haven't found one without a
ton of tin worm...

Also, thanks to the whole lot for picking the Capri for the Team Blitz award, I'm really honoured...

Just as an asides, I'm hoping that the latest Capri in the stable will be ready for next years show...

Pacific Northwest Import Ford Meet 2010

Last Saturday was the 11th annual Import Ford Meet in Hillsboro, Oregon. We had 16 vehicles ranging from a 1947 Prefect Coupe Utility to a 1973 Escort RS 2300. Here is a link to my pictures on Flickr.

This year I created a door prize drawing instead of internal peoples's choice awards by marque. Also for the first time EFONA sponsored the Import Ford catagory, which is a People Choice award voted on by everyone attending the overall Wranglers All Ford Show. Second place went to Bob H (trying to remember his last name) for his delightful Mk I Consul, but first place went to a Sunbeam Tiger which had been stuck in the "Import Ford" catagory by the organizers because they didn't know where else to put it. (nothing wrong with a nice Sunbeam of course, just should not have been in with the Euro-FORDS).
