Hello all,

I'm in the middle of changing fluids and remembered that my Mk1 GT uses EP 80wt. Hypoid, problem is I can't get it anymore. What would you recommend?

Thanks,

Steve

The manual recommends SAE 80W EP which was an old straight weight GL-4 gear oil for the trans and 90W EP for the R/E.
The best trans oil you can use is Red Line MT-90. It satisfies gear oil viscosity 75W, 80W, and 90W. It's one of the only gear oils on the market that is recommended for GL-4 transmissions - like yours. Most trans gear oils are GL-5 which is to slippery for the Cortina box. So GL-4 oil has the perfect synchronizer coefficient of friction. I use this oil for all my EnFos.

Thanks Pete!

As you can tell I've been glued to this post. Where would I find Red Line products?

Hi Steve,

Since we're still glued to this post, I thought I should answer you right-away.

Red line products are usually purchased from speed shops but Napa Auto stores carry some of their products. I would call around first. You can also look on-line which will define the product better.

Thanks again Pete.

Living up here away from mainstream companies I have to get creative in the sourcing dept., otherwise it's a trip into Canada or Seattle for the good parts.

Ok I'm un-gluing myself.
