vacuum advance

I would like to add to my previous message. I have the distributor vacuum advance plumbed from a port on the carb on the "valve cover side" to the distributor. Originally Ford used rubber boots with hard vacuum tube. Is it possible that the rubber hose I am using is collapsing under vacuum? I doubt it but I am running out of potential problems.

I very much doubt it. Even if the vacuum advance wasn't working, you MIGHT notice slightly sluggish performance or a slight increase in fuel consumption; I doubt you'd get rough running.
