Best/Cheapest Way to Register a Car in California?

I sold the Cortina MKII estate to Clyde Bailey,
who lives in Oregon,but will be moving back to California
this next Spring.The license comes up for renewal in Dec.
We we trying to figure out the cheapest (honest) way
of doing this,without registering it in Oregon first.
