Gas Tank

Was wondering if MKI gas tanks are famous for deteriorating from the inside. My tank is in great condition on the outside but inside its a disaster! Looks like big flakes of goo. The sender is completely ruined.

Sounds like water was sitting in there awhile. You can have it boiled out to see the extent of the damage. There are places that will recondition, repair or make a new tank.

Thanks - the tank has some kind of "mushy" lining inside that crumbles. The sender looks like it was on the bottom of the ocean... Its like a chewy rust....

Would there be any other senders from another car that might work?
