1600 Crossflow Hepolite piston part number question

Post by carl k »

I am wondering what the EnFord application is for Hepolite/AE pistons with part number 18757? These are 1600 crossflow, bowl-in-piston crown type without valve reliefs, so I'm guessing late Cortina. But this is not the Hepolite part number in the Tuning Small Fords book- 18684. Could they be the lower compression version for the USA models?

thanks!

Carl,

18757 pistons with valve reliefs are meant for the Capri/Pinto 71-73 1600 OHV engine with a non-camber cylinder head. ( Flat-head )

18684 are used on the Cortina/Capri 68-70 1600 which has the cambered head and doesn't have valve recess on the pistons.

Using 18757 pistons in the early 1600 will lower the C/R. Of coarse, the 18684 won't work in the later 1600 engine.

Hi Pete-

Image

Here's a picture of the piston with the box. The number in pen is the Repco part number. There's no valve reliefs cut into the piston crown which is what had me wondering.

Carl,

The box has been remarked to indicate that they are Repco p/n : RY 2243
which are 18684 pistons for the C/F with chambered cyl. head up to 1970.
These pistons can't be used for the flush cyl. head.

Thanks Pete,

That explains it. I didn't realize the Repco number was a different piston than the Hepolite number.
